Watch Out: Be2 Scam (http://www.be2.com/)

Scam Tricks:

1. Automatically and periodically deduct money (3 or 6 months fee) from your credit card without notifying you after you subscribe it premium service.

2. Intentionally hide the membership auto-extension in T&Cs.

3. No way to cancel the premium membership by following the websites instruction.

Prevention:

Never provide your private info, especially your credit card details.

===============================================================

I got to know Be2 matching making through MSN messenger.

I applied its free trail membership at first. It looked clean in the beginning, it provided a set of questions to evaluate your characters and gave score. When I finished register, it would provide a list of people that matches me. Here was the end of the free trail, each click after that would sooner or later prompt the message to subscribe their premium membership.

For instance, when I click people's photos, it was masked, and you could never really see how is the person looks like,  unless,  I subscribe the premium membership.

In the next few days, I received quite a few emails from be2 saying someone released their photos to me or sent email to me etc.. Of course, I would not be able to view these photos or read emails unless I pay the money.

I was curious after a few days, and I applied the membership for 6 months.

But, what I found out was, I could see the photos and read emails, but those who released their photos to me or sent emails to me were just happened to click my profile. If they did so, Be2 would send out a fraud email to me. And all the Be2 emails I received were others thanks me for releasing my photos to them! I did not release my photos to anyone at all! So I realized that if I uploaded a photo in Be2 and happened to click other's profile, Be2 would also notify that one I released my photo to her! You see the fraud? This fraud would make you think someone is interested in you. I got to know this by replying email to a few members, but they told me that they didn't release photos or sent any emails. So each click I or others did, would help Be2 to cheat someone else who registered.

Later on, Be2 changed its policy, if the other people didn't apply the premium service, these people's photo will always be masked until they pay the money.

I still kept receive Be2 emails telling me who's a good match of me, but what I found out was more than 50% of these people didn't exist in Be2 if I clicked the link in the email sent by Be2.

When I felt tired of its tricks, and by chance I noticed in my profile settings that the premium membership would be automatically extended and deduct money from my credit card, I decided to cancel my membership. But found out the link provided in its website didn't work. I sent email to Be2 to cancel, what I received were always auto-replies telling me to cancel in its website or by fax, however, the fax number was not provided.

Since I cannot cancel the membership, I have to cancel my credit card.

When my 6 months membership ended, Be2 sent me email as below:

Dear .........

The automatic renewal of your Premium Membership has failed due to a problem with your credit card/bank account. We have asked you to update your payment details in order to settle your account. Unfortunately, we are still unable to take any money from your credit card/bank account.

As there is a valid contract between you and be2, we will now take legal measures and hand this over to our collection agency. This may affect your credit rating.

For any questions you may have or any difficulties with paying this invoice, please contact us by writing to our customer service.

As it came with the meaning of threatening, I reported this to the local police as scam.
I will keep update the story to see if Be2 comes with any new tricks.
Meanwhile I googled by "Be2 Scam", and found out there were quite a number of people shared the same experience as mine.
If anyone means how to deal with such scam website, please do let me know.
For these who shared the same experience, please provide your story.
Below I listed some other people's stories.

  1. I am a victim of the scam.. I signed up for the premium membership for 3 mths and subsequently I start to have pblms receiving the email alerts. meaning, i dun receive an email alert when someone sends me a message in Be2. I wrote to their tech support and all I received were numerous standard replies till I gave up and decided not to renew my membership.

I remembered to write in 2 weeks prior
to the end of my membership. But the reply I gotten was that I need to fax my discontinuation form all the way to switzeland; and mind you.. I am in Singapore!!
I questioned them that why when we apply we were not required to fax anything and now, they are making things difficult for us.

Well, of course they aren't going to compromise and till now, I'm still trying to find ways to fax the form to them. Not sure if they are going to come up another bull shit!

  3. Hi Sean,

My story is very similar to yours, and apparently a lot more people have been victimized by this site...

I joined Be2 for a 6 month term and like you found out that alot of people were just fake profiles to get in contact with you to fill the 'quota' of at least 10 members or else they would have to extend your membership for free.

When i caught on to this, i was determined just to let my profile expire. I thought it did since i stopped getting partner recommendations but was surprised to get charged for membership renewal on my credit card bill a couple of months back.

I emailed them asking them to reverse the charges since i did not wish to renew my membership and they did so without my knowledge.

That's when it hit me, that's why they only allow you to pay through credit card and not by any other means, so they can retain your details and charge you again without you knowing and keep charging you while making sure you're not able to cancel your membership.

When that didn't work, I filed for a dispute and got the same letter you posted in red; about 'legal measures' being taken against you because of a 'binding contract' between you and Be2.

Please let me know what happened after they sent that letter to you. I need some advice on what to do next...Thanks Sean, and hopefully more guys get to read our stories before they even think of joining that site.

My bank did a visa dispute and now am receiving threatening emails, my bank looked into it and have recntly closed the case saying its between me and the company now. I am worried as they mention bailiffs and taking me to court. My bank suggested changing my card, email address and going to see CAB, I'm not sure what to do, anybody got any suggestions.

  5. Same situation, as soon as I saw it was automatic charge after trial period I e-mailed them that I wanted to cancel. System would let me and then on the day of the free trial ending they send a password but have charged becasue they want 14 days notice of. Then the refuse to communicate becasue they have my money. Only after my CC company reviewing the corrispondance and I get my money refunded to they bother to contact me and then it's with the same htreats as others.
Contact CBC Market Place and perhaps they can put the pot light on these shark- I have.

  7. Had same experience with be2.no (Norway).

Impossible to deregister user account. Instructions on site changes and are all impossilble to complete. At a certaion point I was asked to send a fax!!!

They kept charging my credit card until I cancelled it. Then they send an e-mail threatening with legal actions if I did not reregister!

Of course I did not and haven't heard from them since.

The whole site is useless crap and a total scam from one end to the other.

  8. I can't delete my account with be2 either and I didn't even finish registering.

Instructions on their website don't work and neither do emails. Emails were probably a mistake because now they know I have one.

I'm going to start posting and sending pictures of my arse and see what happens.

  9. Luckily for me I never entered my Credit Card Details on there but I am worried my Postal Address is in their records. I tried to close my account just now but I've got this "Profile is Blocked" nonsense.

I got an email from the site telling me about a Free 2 Day Premium Service which I took up. 3 women send me a message, each of their details appear very similar to each other saying they lost their parents and wanting to get married etc. Something is seriously dodgy about this so I had to research this further.

Thank you blog for opening my eyes. I just hope I can close my account.

  10. I have had the same problems as everyone else. I paid my £5 for the membership and got a load of rubbish back. In the end I tried to cancel my account but could not open the link to cancel on their site. Yesterday they tried to steal £150.00 from my bank account, but my bank were very quick to pick this up as a fraudulent transaction and immediately recalled the money. I emailed these scamsters and told them that if they attempt to steal from my account again I will take legal action against them. They cannot damage your credit status, so DON'T let them bully you, Stand up to them. Oh, and get your bank to block any future transactions on your card. They can do this

The fraud department of my refunded and they will now be pursuing them. The latest twist, however, is a letter from a debt collection agency seeking e187!!! I sent them away with a flee in their ear and I will put the hands of the police if I hear anything else from them

  19. Well I fell victim too. I found this forum after I signed up. TOO LATE! I wish I had discovered this earlier. Would have spared me a lot of worry.
I just canceled my subscription three months before it was due to expired.
I chose to do this because I read of all the other people having hassles I wanted to be one up on them but I too found it impossible to navigate the cancellation process online. Why is it so hard?
I was given an incomplete mobile phone number with my country code in front posing as the fax number. They totally evaded any questions that I had asked them about addresses and fax numbers.
I pushed the fact with them and told them in my last email to them that because they were evading all my questions and not helping me with the cancellation process that it has lead me to believe that they were scamming me and that they were really operating out of Nigeria I also stated to them that if they were a reputable company they wouldn’t have any problems providing me with an address and Fax number but they still couldn’t provide me with my request. All the more reason that I have suspicions that they are scamming me
They never responded to that email.
I had written a formal cancellation letter but didn’t use my real signature, (I don't know why they want our signatures also that’s the scary bit.)
Scanned it then emailed it to them I told them that this had to do as they wouldn’t supply me with a proper fax no ( I bet it would have been an long distance call also)
Then I cancelled my credit card. They are not scabbing any more money from me
Had to cover all my bases, they still haven’t provide me with a functional fax number or address.
I have only just received my conformation letter from them that I successfully cancelled my membership but still have to carry on for 3 more months. After a couple of months of not getting any other members contacting me I suddenly have an interested party “what a co incidence”
I will be very interested to see if I get any emails in the future re credit card bouncing and that they will take legal action etc. I say let them I have kept all correspondence.
This is the worst site ever that I have come across so all who have read this I hope this has been somewhat helpful. And I hope you found this forum before you parted with your money.. Save your money don’t sign up with them.

I managed to cancel my membership on line. It wasn't at all easy as you discovered when you tried. They make the online cancellation process as difficult as they possibly can, in the hope they people will give up thinking it doesn't work. It required a lot of perseverance to get it to work. Anyway this is kust stage 1 for me. All I've done so far is got confirmation that my membership is cancelled. I'm still chasing my bank to try to get back the money they scammed off me.

Wish we could all get together...and sto them victimise others.

  27. I just tried their £5 offer last week and decided to cancel after the first couple of days, I am receiving the standard replies when trying to cancel and the bank say they cannot stop this transaction by this method and i have to contact Be2, are the bank taking the P155? So I replied to the bank telling them the amount that BE2 are going to debit on the date is an unauthorised transaction. i cannot wait for the banks reply, because if they pull they same contact BE2 then I will tell them they are an accessory to bank fraud.

I am yet anouther victim of this scam. How can it be allowed. I signed up to the 1 month £5 trial and didnt cancel within the 14 days. They eventualy provided a cancelation code which did not work initially but did 2nd time. They then tried to take a whole years subscription of 170 euros. My bank thought it was fraud and didnt pay it. Eight months later I have just recieved a letter from a german debt collector for 260 euros.

I had exactly the same, [the only thing I will say is that 2 of the people I had messages from actually did exist, were in my area, and had Facebook profiles, which I have used to warn them both]. after numerous emails back and forth, and 3 attempts at faxing, I eventually had an e mail from them confirming cancellation of the account. Needles to say I took the precaution of closing the bank account I used, so how would they know they could't access the account 9 days before they were due to????? I attempted to get onto the site to verify the cancellation, to be told I was barred from it for fraudulent activity! They can try legal action if they like, although I doubt very much that will happen. They are a buch of scum

    ReplyDelete
  31. much the same story for me, I signed up for £5 trial offer, but what I saw of their so called services, made me decide to cancel, which I did with some difficulty, then a few days later, I received an early morning call from my bank to inform me that be2 had tried to debit my account, first from Luxembourg and secondly from London, my bank blocked these attempts, as they suspected fraud, they also advised me to cancel my debit card which they replaced with a new one, I guess LloydsTSB have dealt with these crooks before or should that be be4, I then got all the pompous pseudo-legal e-mails, but I knew it was all a third-rate scam of no real legality, I found it all quite funny, they however didn't find my replies funny, but do know lots of swear-words, and used all of them!, now they've passed my "debt" on to some charmless monkeys called Intrum Justitia, (debt collection agency) more pseudo-legal bull-shitters, who will not be getting payed either, because they have no legal powers whatsoever and the "debt" doesn't exist, pure fraud, plain and simple!

  37. I continue to be a victim of be2 for one year. I opened a profile on their website in October 2010, they have taken money from my credit card for six months. I did not like the service and I closed my profile in a month. Nevertheless they have taken money again in March for the next half a year. I sent e-mails to them like many other victims of these swindlers. They gave me a list of instructions which I should follow to cancel my membership really. I have done all. Then I tried to look for my profile on their website and I could see that it did not exist really. For any case I sent them e-mail and asked if our relations were really finished. I received the answer : “Dear Xxxx, thank you for your fast feedback. I have read through the emails between customer service and yourself. I can assure you that your cancellation was successful and no further funds will be taken from your account...”. But soon the money has been taken again. I talked to my bank and they said that that the only thing I can do is to cancel my credit card and get a new one. I have done it. I was surprised to get a letter from be2 in some months “Dear .........
The automatic renewal of your Premium Membership has failed due to a problem with your credit card/bank account. We have asked you to update your payment details in order to settle your account. Unfortunately, we are still unable to take any money from your credit card/bank account.” I deleted this letter. I did not want to spend my time for this stupid correspondence. Do they think that I am an idiot? I have received such letters again and again. At last I have received a letter from Intrum Justitia where they informed me that I am in debt. I have to pay for be2 service a lot of money otherwise my reputation in the country is destroyed (I shall be registered as a bad payer)! Has anybody experienced the same? Let us do something together. larissa@fysiolab.dk

This company are completely bull - someone needs to involve Trading Standards or the Police or lawyers to bring them down - money grabbing garbage.

I have done the same and taken out a Crime Reference Number. I have also been advised to contact Consumer Direct at 08454 040506
More of us report this the stronger the case for the Office of Fair Trading to do something.

I have talked to a lawyer who advised to respond to them in writing. Also suggested we should contact the National Office of Fair Trading via the Trading Standards of your local authority. So they will put pressure across the border to Luxemburg based be2.

  43. After unseccessfuly cancelling 24hours after they have taken $243 out of my account last year in July, I have send numerous emails not to renue and not accessing my account ever again. I am receiving the standard replies when trying to cancel and the bank say they cannot stop this transaction by this method and i have to contact Be2. So I replied to the bank telling them the amount that BE2 are going to debit on the date is an unauthorised transaction. i cannot wait for the banks reply, because if they pull they same contact BE2 then I will tell them they are an accessory to bank fraud

  47. Hi, I am a victim and was lured into signing up on 24 August 2012. After realising the fake "partner recommendation" and all the misleading messages sent on my behalf and from others, I immediately sent email to cancel and seek refund. Like all others, all it said was I could not have a refund. I called their customer cancellation service however the voice mail kept on saying I need to call within business hours which I already did. I sent another email recently about how irresponsible they are victimising people when they are already down and out due to divorce and already are financially worse off. I told them the A$234 that I have paid meant a lot to me as I am a single mum with a dependent son. They then replied that they would refund A$117 and continue to use their service. Obviously, I would not want to continue as they are fraudulent. Rang up Western Australia Consumer Protection and was told to inform the my bank to dispute the payment that I have made thus far. My concern is that they would further deduct my money after 6 months from the date I signed up. I was told to continue to ask the bank to dispute the transaction - not a very good solution. How do we stop this crime.

  48. My wife has fallen prey to Be2 - As she used her debit card to sign up she has no protection... They claimed a membership fee of £51 a month (I have checked the site and set up a Fake profile to check the ToS and there is NOTHING to suggest advance payments or cancellation fees)- Like so many others she has been charged £149 for a single month... This is despite numerous e-mails to cancel her account...

As a direct result - She has been left in a nightmare where her children are suffering as she has not been able to provide for their needs.

I will be sending this page to Trading Standards in the hope that they can find a way to act and shut them down.

  49. Hi all, I have been fallen prey to Be2 just as others described above. I paid the initial 5GBP for trial membership, on 11/9/2012 , after which they immediately subscribed to me as premium membership. On the same day I cancelled my membership, however, it did not work and a month later, 11/10/2012 they charged my debit card with the fee of 149.94GBP. I emailed their customer support, they agreed to cancel my premium membership but did not say anything about refund. More emails to them, no answer, they remained silent. I threatened them with legal action. I have contacted my bank's dispute resolution department, they said they have 45 days to answer according to Visa regulations. I will call my bank tomorrow to block my debit card to prevent any additional charges. THIS IS SCAM COMPANY, FRAUDSTERS AND MUST BE STOPPED. Here are some names who are working for Be2 Customer Service: Cailyn Giles, James Pearson, Jeremy O'Connor, Carolin Anderson. Company details:

  50. I have a similar story. I received emails from at least 4 users. These people eventually started sending me some of the same emails. I actually asked one of them how it was possible to get the same exact message from him....he could not answer. I unfortunately gave my phone number to one, and it was a UK number. He said he worked in calgary but then I found out he was in the UK. Then I called and people with thick east indian accents answered. That scared me badly. I tried to cancel the membership and couldnt so I cancelled my credit card. I did not get any money charged but I am concerned about who has my phone number now. This is a very scary experience..I recently contacted a website that was promoting Be2 as one of the top ten in canada, and advised them that it is a scam...I think it is one of the nigerion ones....scary stuff.....

  53. OK, well I have spent a very long evening trawling through various sites all complaining about Be2 from all over the world. Every post has exactly the same story to tell, people, like us who have had money taken from them or some sort of threat of legal action because we have stopped credit cards etc.

There are many posts telling victims like us to ignore their threats and eventually they will give up and pick on someone else. Now, if you are like me you will be thinking, but what if they don't give up? What if they take me to court? I found lots of posts where people couldn't get their money back, even more posts where people thought the messages were fake, but interestingly not one post that said Be2 had succesfully sued them for the money, or in fact actually tried other than the debt collector letter or solicitor email.

I think that like me, when the letters come in people write these posts looking for help, but when nothing further happens, they shrug their shoulders, forget about it and move on.

I will keep you posted as I have no intention of replying to the latest email which arrived today from this so-called Solicitor

  58. Under English jurisprudence, (law) a debt collector has a contract with the company which employed it NOT with the customers of that company. In short, debt collectors have no power AT ALL. They are not party to any contract with be2. They can, on behalf of their principal put any debt into the Courts, however how will be2 explain to a Court that it advertises a one month trial and then expects customers to write a letter of cancellation BEFORE the trial period ends. This would be to admit deliberate fraud..... At best it is unconscionable conduct for which there could be a au$1,000,000 fine and imprisonment for directors. This company pretends it has a contract with customers but almost any Court would throw them out, I believe. Any agreement that is impossible for a customer to comply is not valid, in my opinion. In any case, under English law the defence can ask for an "Discovery" order for be2 to provide its membership list and documents. Ask your bank to re-issue your credit card with a new number. They can do this the same as if your card was stolen. In this case the number has been obtained by fraud, in my opinion.

  61. DO NOT JOIN THIS SITE ..... it is a rip off and a scam.
Why cant one simply click a button to unsubscribe..... as you can with every other site. You can join at a click so why not when unsubscribing?
The hugely, totally unnecessarily complicated process involved with unsubscribing is a charade to put you off doing it and keep taking your money.
The much vaunted 'computer matching' is also a charade. Virtually all the 'matches' were obviously just random. Just one example: I am an atheist and yet I get replies from people who list 'reading the bible' as their relaxaton.
The few replies that appeared to be genuine direct contacts, turned out to be 'profile removed' so were obviously sent by the site to keep my interest.
If this was a genuine site it would have an easy unsubscribe process.
This site needs to be reported to the international scam register, or, if they consider themselves genuine, they need to take themselves off line until they have tidied up their act.

  62. I am a victim from Singapore. BE2 closed my account 6 days after it was opened. I had paid for 1 year subscription. The only reason BE2 customer service gave was that i have "used their services for denied purposes", which is utterly ridiculous as i had done nothing inappropriate. BE2 customer service ignored all my emails requesting for clear explanation on why my account was blocked.
Since joining BE2, i have been swarmed by scammers.
I am really worried of identity theft. I am afraid BE2 may use my profile to interact and scam other genuine BE2 members.

  66. Wish I had read all this first. This is all very serious stuff. I have been scammed by be2. I took out a month’s membership and then renewed for a 6 month term on my credit card. I hated receiving all these automated emails and not getting any real response. I decided to cancel well in advance of my renewal date. I found the information on the website very unclear and pretty useless with regard to cancelling. I emailed customer services again and again but only got the standard automated reply. I followed their instructions and sent a letter of cancellation as an attachment with the details requested. I asked for confirmation, but did not hear anything until they wanted to take more money from my credit card. I had cancelled my card so they were unable to take the money, but subsequently I keep receiving threatening emails as the one in red above; although I am continuously sending my letter of cancellation. I have kept all emails for my records.
I would appreciate any advice on how I should continue with this? I will contact Citizens Advice Bureau Consumer helpline 08454 04 05 06 and see where this takes me, also contacted watchdog@bbc.co.uk we should all be doing this. I will continue to pursue this.

Ignore their emails - they can't and won't do anything about it. If it's not too much of a hassle for you, I would change your account number just in case the fraud department at the bank don't pick it up the next time they try.

  68. I posted on here in January when I was very, very concerned and thought they were going to sue me. I was so worried, I nearly paid them but am so lucky I didn't! I spoke to a solicitor friend about it who remarked on the following:

    1) If you were not asked to confirm your membership by fax, then it is unreasonable to be asked to cancel it by fax (which you will be if the link actually works) I clicked on the link and someone else's details came up on the form so I didn't fax them.

    2) Despite their claims that they can trace you through your IP address, they cannot! Only law enforcement can do this.

    3) To sue someone in another country is extremely expensive and would cost them far more than they would gain. If they were going to sue they would do it after a few reminders, not after months and months

I still periodically get emails from them telling me that they are giving me one more chance before they take me to court.

I emailed BE2 and told them that I had no intention pf paying up as I cancelled well within the time and I would not enter into any more correspondence from them. I have kept all the emails from them and their so called solicitors, but they won't take it any further they are just trying it on. I guess for every 10 that say no, one will get scared and pay up. I assume that these poor people will just get scammed over and over. PLEASE DO NOT waste any time of your precious life worrying about these scam artists. They can not do anything. Forget it xxx

I caught her out pretty quick and she got nothing from me. She is just a piece of shit and there will be more of them out there , that is for certain.
As for the subscription I followed their instructions and have an email confirming my cancelation that I will keep just in case. What you do is print out their cancelation form and sign it then scan it and send it by email, this seems to have worked.

  76. I got caught by this but worked out it was a scam. I emailed every Be2 address I could find advising that unless the unauthorized 'premium' account was cancelled pdq I'd pass the matter to the police. My account was cancelled within 12 hours. I also got the bank to cancel / re-issue the credit card with new numbers in case they try to be sneaky in a few months times.
They have no chance with collection agencies. Ignore any letters and advise any callers from such agencies to leave or the police will be inolved as you are being dunned under false pretenses.

    1. Yes, My name is Senka and I have been scammed also. Not only did they deduct the money again, I found I was getting regular deductions from Global Personals that they must be related to. Just cancelling my card and reporting this issue to the bank.

Since yesterday I didn't hear from them anymore, not even an acknowledgement letter. I'm glad I read this website and many post, I'll just ignore their message.

  92. I have written an email to the Chamber of Commerce of Luxemburg, asking them to investigate on be2 and shutdown the company.

I believe that if all defrauded people write them, there is a chance we can stop this scam.
I think it would be a good idea to write to the bank where they collect the money that they extort to people.
